It is so exciting to be back at Steck for a fourth year and my tenth year as an educator. It is an honor to be serving as both the Multilingual Learner teacher and Team Lead this year. To begin, I was born in Colombia and immigrated to the United States when I was five. I grew up in Gastonia, North Carolina with my parents, Guillermo and Bety, and my brothers, Steve and Alex. I began my career as a teacher in N.C. as an English as Second Language teacher, primarily to first grade students. The work I did with students eventually earned me the recognition of Teacher of the Year for my school and later for the school district. Afterwards, I did a year in kindergarten as a dual language Spanish immersion teacher. That same year, I met Chris, my now husband, who encouraged me to move out here to Denver. Before coming to Steck, I taught sixth grade language arts next door at Hill Campus for a year. The past three years, I have been a first grade teacher. Last year, I also began work towards my Master’s degree in school administration at the University of Denver. I learned so much about Steck’s history, culture, student achievement, and more, and now I’m excited to be supporting Mr. Salazar, our teachers, and our students in a greater capacity this year. Outside of school, I love traveling with Chris, taking our four-legged daughters, Edie and Brigid, on adventures all over Colorado, and singing my heart out to my favorite musical numbers.
