Amy Alsina




Amy Alsina (she/her/hers) has been teaching in Denver Public Schools for 7 years. Amy is excited to join both the Steck and Palmer school communities for the 21-22 school year. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Music Education. Amy started her musical career at age 11 playing the viola in middle school. In high school she continued playing the viola and decided teaching music was what she wanted to do. Through her education, Amy learned how to play and teach many instruments as well as general music. She currently plays with the Aurora Symphony Orchestra as the principal violist. In addition to her instrumental skills, Amy is a fully certified teacher in the Orff Schulwerk curriculum. Orff Schulwerk is a music teaching pedagogy that focuses on student creativity and using essential music building blocks for self expression. Amy believes in a positive approach to teaching her students. She believes in teaching students the skills they need through fun and challenging music at a comfortable pace.

At home, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband of 10 years out hiking in Colorado’s beautiful nature spots. She also enjoys crocheting and playing piano in her spare time.
