What is Dollar A Day?
The Dollar-A-Day program is a voluntary, direct-giving campaign for Steck Elementary School parents, friends and extended family who give what they can to lower teacher/student ratios.  All Dollar-A-Day funds go to support teacher, para-professional and class size relief teach salaries.  We encourage donors to give 1 dollar per school day, this comes to roughly $180 per student.  However, the goal of Dollar-A-Day is for 100% or our families to contribute ANY AMOUNT to help raise $50,000 by the end of the school year.
 
Why Contribute?
Steck is committed to providing a high quality education to each child.  Teachers at Steck receive classroom support from para-professionals and supplemental math and language art teachers to better meet the needs of each individual child.  This year Steck PTSA is spending $62,000 to purchase some of this additional classroom teaching support not provided by the district.  With our classrooms at capacity, we need our supplemental teachers and para-professionals MORE THAN EVER!
 
Who runs the program and how are the funds spent?
Every winter, the Steck principal along with the Collaborative School Committee (CSC) formulates a school budget for the following year.  The gap between the budget from the district and a budget that delivers a comprehensive, quality curriculum is closed by funds raised through Dollar-A-Day and the Auction.  The PTSA votes on the final amount to supplement the school budget.
 
New This Year
5th Grade - Historically, the funds raised by Dollar-A-Day are allocated for the following year’s spending needs.  With that, the families of outgoing 5th graders do not have the benefit of realizing their contributions.  New this year, outgoing 5th grade families will have the option to direct their Dollar-A-Day donations to a 5th grade class fund to support  specific needs indicated by the 5th grade teachers for use in the current year.
 
Sponsorships – With our goal to reach 100% participation, we are asking parents to indicate their level of  participation or no participation at all at the beginning of the year.  With this information, we will then seek out sponsorships via other families, alumni and businesses for those families who choose not to contribute.  
 
How Do I Contribute?
•    Fill out the form below and return to the office.
•    Choose from the following payment options :
•    Donate Online.  See the Steck website for making online Dollar-A-Day credit card payments.  Please     note, Steck pays a 3.3% fee on all credit card transactions
•    Check Payment.  Write a check to the STECK PTSA and put DOLLAR-A-DAY in the memo line.  Return the check to the office.
•    Pledge.  Choose to pay your donation in two installments.  The first by October 15th, the second by March15th.  We will bill you.
•    We will issue a receipt - your donation is tax deductible

Contributing Beyond a Dollar-A-Day
Please consider contributing beyond a Dollar-A-Day.
•    Check to see if your employer will match your donation.
•    Contact grandparents, aunts, uncles and other relatives.  Consider requesting a Quarter-A-Day relative donation which amounts to about $45.
•    Sponsor a student whose family is not able to contribute this year.
